Anti-mainstream activities around Padma

Whether or not you are visiting Bali for the first time, you probably have done a thorough research on places to see and activities to do in Bali – or around Kuta, Legian and Seminyak in particular if you’re staying at Padma Resort Legian. While most Bali travel articles provide you a list of cultural tours, beach hopping, shopping and restaurant recommendations (which are exciting too!) there are distinctive activities and places within a close distance to Padma Resort Legian that are worth checking too! Here are a few of them.

Turn the world upside down
Welcome to an uncanny house, which consists of a bedroom, kitchen, dining room, bathroom, laundry room, and living rooms. The name “Upside Down World” is pretty explanatory as it is a house built upside down and in 90 degrees angle that will give you an Alice in Wonderland-like experience. This is an interesting place to take quirky holiday photos. Being upside down, you will feel challenged to do the most “convincing” poses – but don’t worry, the friendly staff will patiently guide you to set up the poses and angles if you can’t think of your own. They will be happy to take photos for you too! 😉 The Upside Down World is located on the side of By Pass main road, on the way to Sanur.

Take part in a positive community
You may have heard of the sea turtle issues that have been going on in Indonesia, and in Bali alone in the last two decades. It is not something to be proud of, and with the help of some local communities and organisations, we have been trying our best to protect our precious sea turtles and their nests. The closest one within reach from Padma neighbourhood is Bali Sea Turtle society in Kuta Beach. The local activists and residents have been working hand in hand to collect and save found laying eggs, nurture them, and release the baby sea turtles back to the ocean. Everyone can take part in the sea turtle release sessions they have in Kuta Beach when they have some baby sea turtles ready. Occasionally, they also do a sea turtle education for kids that’s also open for everyone. To get there, simply walk to the left after you reach the main gate of Kuta Beach – you will see a giant sea turtle statue which is a built-in nest for the sea turtle eggs.

Bring out the climber soul in you!
Yes, we do have real mountains to hike and climb in Bali, but have you tried indoor bouldering? It is a form of rock climbing done without ropes or harnesses. Sounds scary? It is not. Do not be intimidated by the look of this bouldering space at Eiger as it is safe and open for all levels of climbers (even kids!) By paying only IDR 20,000 you will be given a pair of climbing shoes, magnesium powder, and shared instructor that will guide you through every step of the way, literally! 😉 This bouldering space is a part of the huge camping and outdoor supply store, Eiger, located on Sunset Road. There’s tall outdoor a wall climbing too that you can try if you’re feeling a little more adventurous!

Living the cowboys life, on the island
What else is there to do to enjoy the magic hour in Bali apart from pool side chill and cocktails? The beach you see from our infinity pools is what the locals call “Padma Beach” where you can enjoy an afternoon walk without actually walking, because you will be carried by a horse. Horseback riding on the beach is becoming more and more popular in Bali. Don’t imagine scenes from Three Musketeers or Quentin Tarantino’s films as this is a very relaxing activity. Both adults and children can enjoy this horseback riding tour that normally runs for 1 to 2 hours. You don’t need to be a professional equestrian as you will be accompanied by the horse care takers throughout the tour.
